Osprem, the goddess of sea travel, hears countless prayers from sailors trapped in raging storms. Though she wears no armor, she is protected by a ring carved from a whale’s tooth, a gift from the grandfather of all whales. She teaches that the sea is both a source of sustenance and a pathway across the world, and must be guarded as one would guard a home. Those who respect Osprem and obey her laws are granted protection, safe passage, and guidance through treacherous waters, and she stands as the patron goddess of naval explorers. Those who defy her, however, suffer her wrath in the form of brutal ice storms; legends tell of entire towns erased for grievous offenses against her will.
Osprem is most often portrayed as a beautiful woman in a flowing gown, though she may also appear as a dolphin, barracuda, or sperm whale. In her human guise, she always bears the whale-tooth ring, a symbol of her bond with the great creatures of the sea.
