Kylma – The Southern Continent
Kylma lies to the south of the Indersta Sea, beginning at approximately 55 degrees south and growing steadily colder the further one travels inland. It is a harsh and sparsely developed land, where survival takes precedence over expansion and ambition.
Along the northern coast lies a narrow band of settlement, representing the extent of what might be considered civilised presence on the continent. These are small colonies and isolated outposts, tenuously connected to the wider world. Agriculture is limited by poor soil and an unforgiving climate, leaving these settlements heavily dependent on trade and supply from Warlderia. Life here is precarious, shaped by both environment and distance.
This fragile existence creates constant tension. Supply ships may fail to arrive, caravans can vanish, and isolated communities sometimes face threats they cannot handle alone. Adventurers may be called upon to escort vital shipments, investigate the disappearance of a remote outpost, or mediate disputes between settlers competing over limited resources.
Stretching across the continent are the imposing Orcbane Mountains, forming a natural barrier between the known north and the largely unexplored south. These mountains are difficult and dangerous to cross, their passes few and treacherous. Though rich in mineral resources, they are rarely exploited to any great extent. More than a physical obstacle, they mark a cultural divide—beyond them, knowledge quickly fades into uncertainty.
Rumours persist of lost passes, abandoned mines, and hidden routes through the range. Expeditions may be mounted to locate new crossings, recover valuable resources, or uncover what lies beyond. Few return from such journeys, and those who do rarely agree on what they encountered.
South of the Orcbane range lies a vast and frozen wilderness known as the Southern Wastes. Conditions here are extreme, with bitter cold and an environment hostile to sustained human settlement. It is a land largely untouched by civilisation, where survival itself is uncertain.
These wastes are home to numerous orc tribes, once a constant and serious threat to the northern settlements. In recent decades, however, these tribes have turned inward, becoming embroiled in prolonged internal conflicts rather than outward expansion. Whether this fragile state of isolation will endure remains unknown.
Some believe this internal war hides a greater threat—perhaps the rise of a new leader, or something driving the tribes into conflict. Others see opportunity, suggesting that divided enemies may be vulnerable. Adventurers might be sent to gather intelligence, recover relics from abandoned war camps, or determine whether the current peace is genuine—or merely the calm before a renewed invasion.
