Races & Peoples of Warlderia
Warlderia is home to a variety of peoples, each shaped by their history, environment, and relationships with others. While humans are the most widespread and politically dominant, they are not alone.
Other races endure in older lands, hidden places, or alongside human realms—sometimes as allies, sometimes as rivals, and often as something in between.
In Warlderia, identity is defined as much by culture and circumstance as by race. Alliances are shaped by need, history, and survival rather than simple divisions.
Humans
Humans are the most numerous and adaptable people in Warlderia. They dominate most kingdoms, empires, and frontier settlements, and their ambitions have shaped much of the world’s recent history.
- Found across all major regions
- Diverse cultures, beliefs, and political systems
- Responsible for the rise and fall of great empires
- Often divided by internal rivalries
Current Role:
Humans drive most of the world’s change. Their expansion, conflicts, and ambitions continue to reshape Warlderia.
Elves
Elves are a long-lived and cautious people, most often found in ancient forests or isolated enclaves. They are deeply tied to their lands and traditions, and slow to trust outsiders.
- Strong connection to ancestral territories
- Long memory and awareness of past events
- Prefer subtle influence over open rule
- Rarely gather in large, visible realms
Current Situation:
Elven numbers have declined over time, and many communities have withdrawn from the wider world. They remain watchful, particularly where human expansion threatens their lands.
In Play:
Elves are more likely to appear as guardians, envoys, or observers than as rulers. Their knowledge can be valuable—but their trust must be earned.
Dwarves
Dwarves are a resilient and practical people, known for their strongholds, craftsmanship, and enduring traditions.
- Live in fortified settlements, often in hills or mountains
- Highly skilled in metalwork, stonecraft, and engineering
- Value loyalty, honour, and self-reliance
- Maintain controlled and cautious contact with outsiders
Current Situation:
Dwarven communities remain stable but guarded. Trade with humans exists, but trust is measured. Old grudges still influence their actions.
In Play:
Dwarves often appear as traders, allies of necessity, or defenders of their domains. Their support is reliable—but rarely given freely.
Other Peoples
Beyond the major races are smaller or less widely known groups. These peoples often live on the edges of the known world or in regions shaped by unique conditions.
They may include:
- Isolated tribes with distinct customs
- Peoples adapted to harsh or unusual environments
- Cultures shaped by ancient events or forgotten histories
Current Role:
These groups are often overlooked by larger powers, but can play important roles locally—or become significant under changing conditions.
Relations Between Peoples
Relationships in Warlderia are complex and rarely defined by simple alliances.
- Cooperation is often temporary and based on necessity
- Distrust is common, particularly between very different cultures
- Trade can exist alongside rivalry or hostility
- Old conflicts are remembered, even when not openly acknowledged
Understanding these relationships is key to navigating the world.
Where They Are Found
- Humans: Across all regions and levels of society
- Elves: Forests, hidden enclaves, and contested borderlands
- Dwarves: Mountainous regions, fortified holds, and trade routes
- Others: Frontier regions, remote lands, and unusual environments
Using Peoples in Play
The peoples of Warlderia add depth and variety to a campaign:
- Introduce cultural perspectives and tensions
- Provide allies, rivals, or neutral parties
- Offer unique knowledge, skills, or resources
- Create situations where negotiation matters as much as force
Characters are shaped more by their experiences than by their race alone.
